Image of Our Lady of Fátima with Precious Crown and Diamond Cloak. Gold, silver and precious stones

Image of Our Lady of Fátima with Precious Crown and Diamond Cloak. Gold, silver and precious stones

Image of Our Lady of Fátima with Precious Crown and Diamond Cloak. Gold, silver and precious stones Just a few years from the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the apparitions at Cova da Iria, the Leitão & Irmão house contributed to this significant milestone by recreating – in silver, gold and precious stones – the famous crowned image of the chapel. To faithfully reproduce a small image of Our Lady of Fátima, Leitão & Irmão used the original moulds – now in the possession of Luciano Thedim, nephew and pupil of José Ferreira Thedim, whose saint-making workshop is located in Nogueira da Maia. Based on the moulds from 1920, Luciano Thedim carved, in Brazilian cedar, the same piece from the chapel of the apparitions, but in a smaller size to be reproduced as jewellery. The work to reproduce this wood sculpture in silver was done in 2012/2013 using a manufacturing technique – patented by Leitão & Irmão – which perfectly replicates the wood in silver. The diamonds in the cloak represent the mirrors in the original image of Our Lady, in the Chapel of the Apparitions. As regards the crown, the original 1942 mould of the Precious Crown made in the Leitão house’s workshop was also used to ensure the most faithful reproduction possible in miniature. The Precious Crown is worn by the image of Our Lady on anniversaries of the apparitions, and is manufactured in gold with a variety of embedded precious stones. Diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds, amethysts, turquoises and pearls. All of these precious materials are meticulously reproduced in the miniature replica. All of the jewellery...
